Measures to Support Accessibility

This digital accessibility statement will be reviewed regularly, understanding that the Eagle Valley Library District may make updates or modifications as needed. Our Web Accessibility Policy outlines further measures to support digital accessibility at Eagle Valley Library District.

Standards for Digital Accessibility

Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve digital accessibility for people with disabilities. It outlines three levels of accessibility criteria standards: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. EVLD.org is partially compliant with WCAG version 2.1, level AA. This means some parts of our digital content do not fully meet the WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standard.

Eagle County Library District’s journey towards providing digital accessibility is continuous. We will persist in our efforts to meet WCAG and our own accessibility standards, ensuring that every visitor to our digital assets feels welcomed and included.

Third Party Content

To further enhance our digital experience, the Eagle Valley Library District features links to third-party vendors. However, we do not control third-party vendors and cannot guarantee that their policies or practices meet digital accessibility standardsEagle Valley Library District is working to identify the accessibility of third-party websites and vendors and when they will meet our digital accessibility standards.

Limitations and Alternatives

We want to provide easy access to our information and resources on EVLD.org. Despite our best efforts, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of our known limitations for our digital content, and potential solutions. Please use the contact information in the Contact Us section of this statement to let us know if you encounter an issue.

Known limitations for EVLD.org:

  1. Low Color Contrast: Some logos and areas of the website may not have a high color contrast between the background color and text color because these items are from external sources and still need to be updated. We are working with external vendors and creating new images that support accessible color contrast.
  2. Keyboard accessibility: Some areas of EVLD.org and its third-party websites or vendors need keyboard accessibility because integration with common screen readers result in lack of keyboard accessibility. We are working with third-party vendors to identify whether they are keyboard accessible and when they will be.
  3. Inaccessible documents: Some documents on this website may not have proper tagging or alternative text because documents were created as scanned images and lack the ability to be tagged or have alternative text. We have identified all documents that are scanned images and have either removed that document or have replaced it with a document that is tagged or has proper alternative text.
  4. Heading hierarchy: Some pages on this website may lack heading elements because improper nesting of heading elements was used. We have identified which pages have inappropriate heading elements and are fixing the nesting of those elements.
  5. Missing Video Captions: Although this website has limited use of videos, some may be missing video captions because captions were not added to previously created videos. We are working to incorporate video captions in videos created by Eagle County Library District and phase out videos that do not have video captions.

Assessment Approach
