Using the Library FAQ

To get a library card, please bring a picture I.D. and proof of Colorado residency or property ownership to your local library branch or the Bookmobile. You will be issued a library card for free.
TYPES OF LIBRARY CARDS
- Regular Card: Any EVLD resident with proof of residency may register for a regular library card. To acquire a library card for a child under the age of 13, a parent or legal guardian must present their photo ID and proof of residency and must accompany the child to a library location.
- Student Card: Students in K-12 may be eligible for student cards through the Eagle County School District with parental permission.
- Visitor Card: Available to visitors of the Eagle Valley Library District for a set period of time.
- eCard: A virtual card that allows patrons to place holds and provides immediate access to some digital library resources for a set period of time.
Library cards and replacement cards are free. Treat your library card as you would your credit card; report a lost or stolen card immediately. Always bring your library card when checking out items. You are responsible for all materials borrowed on your library card from the time they are checked out until they are checked in.
If you would like to apply for a card online please go to our online registration form. You will still need to bring the verification listed above to your local library to receive your card. Please mention that you have filled out this form online.
Patrons with a library card may check out up to 50 items per card including, 5 digital titles (i.e. eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines).
Traditional materials (i.e. books, audiobooks, magazines, and DVDs):
- Do not accrue late fines
- Have a three-week checkout period
- Eligible items may automatically renew up to two times
“Non-traditional” items such as “Library of Things”:
- Accrue late fines
- Have a one-week checkout period
- Not renewable
- Patrons will be charged replacement fees for lost or damaged items and a $5.00 processing fee
To access your library card record, go to "Catalog + My Account", and enter your library card number and library password. From within your account you may request items, renew items, and review your reading history.
To set or reset a forgotten password go to "Catalog + My Account", and click "Reset My Password". Enter in your library card number or student ID number. An email will be sent to the email connected to your library card or student ID number. Follow the instruction in the email to set or reset your password.
Wi-Fi is available for free.
Two - 30 minute computer sessions (each session is renewable for up to two hours if no one is waiting for a computer) are available to patrons with their library barcode and to visitors with a printed guest pass from the front desk.
The library offers digital media for checkout onto various devices with a library card.
Photocopying and Printing:

Wireless Printing is available.

Black and white copies and printing is available for .20 per page. The first 10 pages are free.

Color printing is available for .50 per page.
Faxing:

Sending fax documents is $2.50 for the first 10 pages and $1.00 for each page thereafter.

Receiving faxed documents is $1.50 for the first page and $1.00 for each page thereafter.
Scanning:

Scanning to a USB drive is available. There is no cost to scan to your own USB drive. USB drives may also be purchased from the library for $5.00.
Eagle Valley Library District regular cards are valid for two years, after which time they must be renewed. Library cards can be renewed by telephone or in person at any library branch or on the Bookmobile.
Library materials may be renewed online with your library card number. To renew items online, go to "Catalog + My Account", and enter your library card number and library password.
To renew all items, click on the "Renew All" button. If you only wish to renew certain items, click the box(es) preceding the item(s) in the list, and the click on "Renew Selected Items". If an item may not be renewed it will say "ON HOLD" in red next to the due date of the item. You can also call your local branch and request items renewed over the phone during library hours. Have your library card ready as staff will need it to complete the renewal.
There are also several cases where you cannot renew items checked out to you. Renewals will be blocked if:
- There are outstanding fees or fines of more than $5.00 on your card.
- Your card has expired or if your card will expire prior to the new due date.
- There is a request on by other library customer for the item.
Renewal dates are from the date renewed, not the date material is due.
To keep a history of the items you have read, go to "Catalog + My Account". Enter your library card number and library password. Next then click on " Reading History" on the right sidebar and then click on "Start Recording My Reading History". From that point on every item you check out will be recorded and you can view the information in your record.
There are no fines on returned materials (i.e. books, audiobooks, magazines, and DVDs). Late fines may accrue until the materials are returned.
Non-traditional materials such as Library of Things will accrue late fines. Accounts with materials more than 30 days overdue and / or delinquent in the amount of $50.00 or more may be referred to a third party collection agency and an additional $10 collection fee will be added to the account. Patrons will be charged replacement fees for lost or damaged materials and a $5.00 processing fee.
Children and teen books, audiobooks, and DVDs will not be charged replacement costs for unreturned or damaged materials.
The Board of Trustees adopts and oversees the development of the District's policies.
